The 31-year-old Portuguese international departs City following a highly successful nine-year spell that yielded numerous domestic and European trophies. Silva had been linked with several Spanish clubs in recent months, including Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, before choosing a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
He becomes Real Madrid’s second signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrival of Marc Cucurella from Chelsea in a deal worth £52 million.
Real Madrid are looking to strengthen their squad after a disappointing campaign in which they failed to win a major trophy. The Spanish giants finished eight points behind La Liga champions Barcelona and were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
Silva is currently representing Portugal at the FIFA World Cup and is expected to play a key role in his country's campaign.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are reportedly pursuing Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries, while France international Ibrahima Konate is also expected to join the club after leaving Liverpool.
The club recently secured the future of defender Antonio Rudiger, who signed a contract extension that will keep him at Real Madrid until 2027.
