Heirs School of Excellence, as part of his unwavering commitment to expanding access to quality basic education in the community. Located at Ukalor, Ogbunike, in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, the school was established more than seven years ago to provide free education from crèche to primary school level for both indigenes and non-indigenes resident in the area. While taking the management team of the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), led by the Acting Managing Director, Barrister Juliet Mbaonu-Ike, on a tour of the new school site, Sir Okwy said the project underscores his determination to ensure that no child in Ogbunike is denied access to education because of financial constraints. He reaffirmed his commitment to promoting educational development and tackling illiteracy, which he described as a major impediment to sustainable community growth and progress. Speaking on the development, the Head Mistress of Heirs School of Excellence, Mrs. Blessing Nwogbu, explained that the school has operated from the village hall since its inception but has since outgrown the facility due to a steady increase in pupil enrolment. She expressed delight that the permanent site, upon completion, would provide a more conducive learning environment and enable the school to accommodate more pupils. Mrs. Nwogbu also commended Sir Okwy for his consistency in funding the school’s operations and ensuring the prompt payment of staff salaries despite offering free education, praying for God’s continued blessings upon him. In separate interviews, the Chairman of the Ukalor Welfare Union, Engineer Henry Modeme, and the Youth Leader of the community, who is also the supervising engineer of the project, Mr. Chukwujioke Ndibe, lauded Sir Okwy for his numerous contributions to the development of Ogbunike. They noted that the tuition-free school has significantly reduced the financial burden of education on many families, while the construction of the permanent site has created employment opportunities for youths in the community. They called on other well-meaning individuals to emulate Sir Okwy’s philanthropic gesture in the interest of community and societal development.
