Police Neutralise Two Suspected Kidnappers, Recover AK-47, Pump-Action Gun in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command says it has neutralised two suspected kidnappers following a gun battle with operatives along Eziowelle Road in Idemili Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspects allegedly opened fire on a Rapid Response Squad team from Awkuzu after they were sighted during an intelligence-led operation on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
A fierce exchange of gunfire reportedly followed, leaving two suspects dead, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot injuries.
The police recovered an AK-47 rifle with a magazine containing four live rounds, a pump-action gun and five live cartridges from the scene.
Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes across the state.
Investigations are ongoing, while efforts have been intensified to track down the fleeing suspects.
