Pope Leo XIV is set to make a pastoral visit to the Republic of San Marino on Saturday before travelling to the Italian coastal city of Rimini for a major Catholic gathering bringing together leaders from religion, culture and politics.
During his visit to San Marino, the pontiff will meet with local authorities and hold a prayer service at the historic Basilica of San Marino.
He will later travel to Rimini to attend the annual Communion and Liberation meeting, widely known as the Rimini Meeting. The event attracts a large number of participants every year and features discussions on faith, society, culture and public affairs.
Pope Leo XIV is expected to deliver an address during the gathering, becoming the first pontiff to participate in the event since Pope John Paul II’s visit in 1982.
Before his speech, the Pope will visit an exhibition dedicated to Saint Augustine, the influential Christian thinker whose teachings played a major role in shaping the Augustinian tradition.
The Holy Father will also meet people living with disabilities and members of the Catholic community who are ill before presiding over an open-air Mass at Rimini’s port later in the day.
The visit continues Pope Leo XIV’s series of shorter pastoral journeys this summer, following recent visits to Pavia, Lampedusa and Assisi.
