Real Madrid Defender Ferland Mendy to Face Trial Over Alleged Dog Attack
Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy is set to face trial after one of his dogs allegedly attacked a teenager and two other dogs following an escape from his property in Spain.
Court documents indicate that a private prosecutor is seeking a six-month prison sentence and fines, alleging that Mendy acted with gross negligence. State prosecutors, however, are requesting financial penalties for a lesser offence relating to the injuries caused.
The incident reportedly occurred in January 2023 in Alcobendas, a suburb of Madrid. Reports say four dogs belonging to Mendy escaped after the gate to his residence was left open as a vehicle entered.
One of the dogs allegedly attacked another woman's pet, which later died after being euthanised because of its injuries. A 17-year-old boy who tried to intervene was also reportedly bitten, along with a relative's dog he was walking.
Mendy, who joined Real Madrid from French club Lyon in 2019, has struggled with a series of injuries during his time at the Spanish giants. The court is expected to hear the case in the coming months.
