Tinubu Approves Design Phase for Two Major Southeast Highway Projects

President Bola Tinubu has approved the design and procurement phases for two major dual carriageway projects expected to strengthen road infrastructure and regional connectivity across Anambra State and the Southeast.
The approval follows sustained engagements between the Anambra State Government and the Federal Government on the need to improve strategic transport corridors in the region.
After a meeting with President Tinubu on July 1, Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo was requested by the Federal Ministry of Works to submit proposals on priority road projects. The governor subsequently forwarded two strategic road corridors on July 3.
The approved projects are the 108-kilometre Otuocha–Anam–Abaji (Kogi) Road, which will be dualised, and the 150-kilometre Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube (Okigwe Junction) Road, designed to connect Anambra and Imo states to the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway through parts of Abia State.
Governor Soludo disclosed that the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, formally conveyed President Tinubu’s approval on July 15, authorising both projects to proceed to the design and procurement stages.
According to the governor, the highways are expected to serve as key transport corridors linking the Southeast with the North Central and South-South regions, while improving the movement of goods and services, reducing travel time, and boosting economic activities across the affected states.
He noted that the approval reflects the growing collaboration between the Federal and Anambra State governments in delivering critical infrastructure that will enhance regional integration and drive socioeconomic development.
