Umerie Assumes Office as APGA Acting Woman Leader, Pledges Inclusive Leadership
The Acting Woman Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State, Mrs. Chinwe Umerie, has pledged to provide inclusive leadership, strengthen party unity, and promote greater women’s participation in politics as she officially assumes office. Mrs. Umerie made the pledge during her inaugural meeting with the 21 Local Government APGA Women Leaders in Anambra State, where she unveiled her vision for deepening grassroots mobilisation and expanding women’s involvement in the affairs of the party. She commended her predecessor, Mrs. Esther Onyekesi, for her contributions to the welfare of women and the growth of APGA in the state, assuring members that her administration would be anchored on integrity, transparency, accountability, and consultative leadership. The Acting Woman Leader charged the local government women leaders to intensify grassroots mobilisation by strengthening ward structures, reconnecting with women across communities, registering new members, identifying polling unit coordinators, and rallying support for the party and its candidates. Speaking on the party’s national political direction, Mrs. Umerie explained that APGA’s decision to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was informed by a shared commitment among progressive forces to promote national development. She urged the women leaders to effectively communicate the party’s position to women at the grassroots while remaining steadfast in advancing APGA’s growth and electoral success in Anambra State. She also directed the local government women leaders to hold strategic monthly meetings, submit periodic activity reports, conduct regular ward visits with documented evidence, recruit more women into the party, resolve internal disputes promptly, and mentor young women for future leadership responsibilities. Mrs. Umerie assured party members that her office would operate an open-door policy founded on consultation, fairness, and inclusiveness, emphasizing that every local government area would receive equal attention and that commitment, dedication, and outstanding performance would be duly recognised and rewarded.
