On September 2, I met with our LACA Managers and HIV/AIDS Awareness Brigade (HAB) Coordinators across the 21 LGAs as we commenced an important process of reviving and strengthening Anambra State’s grassroots HIV response.
A major step is the establishment of our 1,693 Ward HIV/AIDS Brigaders, designed to take HIV awareness, prevention, testing, referrals and linkage to care deeper into our wards and communities.
We are also revitalising LACA and building stronger synergy between LACA and HAB, because while ANSACA provides coordination at the state level, the real work and impact must be felt in our LGAs, wards and communities.
Our message to our coordinators was simple: we reward value, not titles or positions. Every responsibility must translate into measurable results for our people.
Importantly, our work does not end with HIV testing. When someone tests positive, we must ensure proper linkage to care, follow-up and retention in treatment.
We also listened to the challenges faced by our grassroots teams and will continue working to address them and strengthen their capacity to deliver.
I sincerely appreciate Mr Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, for providing the leadership and enabling environment for us to reposition the HIV response in Anambra State.
We are building a coordinated response from the State → LGA → Ward → Community, with one clear goal:
Zero New HIV Infections in Anambra State by 2030.
