Tuchel’s Bunker Mentality And School Boy Error Gifted Scaloni And Argentina Victory Against England

I love Thomas Tuchel, but he succumbed to a special curse called schoolboy error and allowed Scaloni to defeat him psychologically. The result on the pitch was the result of what played out in each manager’s mind, irrespective of the dependable brilliance of Messi with his two assists.
As far as England took the lead right up to the 85th minute, the game was as good as won because they’re not Egypt. But what did Tuchel do? He developed a bunker mentality and began from the 72nd minute to remove offensive players to replace them with defensive players. Of course, Scaloni read this as panic and countered by removing defensive players and bringing in offensive players. They were a goal down and were going out, so if the other manager is already panicking and stopping to play and just wanting to defend, then that means only one team want to play and only the team that play win at this point. He wasn’t gambling, he was winning the psychological game.
So, what should have been the former Chelsea manager’s greatest moment becomes his darkest as it’s sure as daylight that he would be drawn and quartered all over England, Europe and the world for this schoolboy mistake. It is so bad, we can’t celebrate the great feat of him even reaching the last four with this England team. A German allowed Argentina to still win the Falklands Revenge 44 years after without the Hand of God. It rankles greatly. Football isn’t coming home, not this year.
