Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission following his victory in the August 15 governorship election.
The certificate was presented to the governor on Wednesday at the INEC office in Osogbo.
Speaking after the presentation, Adeleke thanked residents for renewing his mandate and dedicated the victory to the people of Osun State. He also expressed concern over the violence recorded during the election, which reportedly left several people injured, destroyed property and claimed lives.
To support those affected, the governor announced plans to establish a ₦500 million Election Violence Victims Endowment Fund for verified victims and families.
A Verification and Relief Committee, chaired by Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, is expected to oversee the identification of beneficiaries and distribution of assistance.
Adeleke stressed that the support would not be based on political affiliation, religion, ethnicity, gender or social status.
In addition, the Adeleke family, through the Springtime Development Foundation, will offer full scholarships up to university level to children and dependants of those who lost their lives during the electoral violence.
Calling for unity and reconciliation, the governor urged residents to put the election behind them and work together for the development of Osun State.
“The contest is over. Now is the time to govern, heal, unite and build,” Adeleke said.
