Anambra Attorney-General Inspects Multi-Door Courthouse, Reaffirms Commitment to Justice Reform

The Anambra State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Tobechukwu Nweke, has inspected the Anambra State Multi-Door Courthouse (AnMDC) in Awka, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to strengthening alternative dispute resolution and improving access to justice.
The inspection, which took place on August 4 at the Judiciary Headquarters, Awka, was aimed at assessing the operations of the facility and identifying ways to further enhance justice delivery across the state.
The Anambra State Multi-Door Courthouse was inaugurated on February 5, 2019, by the then Chief Judge Emeritus, Hon. Justice Peter Umeadi. However, the facility could not commence full operations at the time due to operational challenges.
Speaking during the inspection, the Director of the AnMDC, Hon. Chineze Obianyo, disclosed that the centre was re-established on August 19, 2025, and has since become fully operational.
She explained that the courthouse provides alternative dispute resolution services through walk-in requests, court referrals and strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Justice.
According to Obianyo, the AnMDC also contributes to the administration of criminal justice through its Restorative Justice Mechanism, which handles eligible cases involving defendants who have admitted guilt and are willing to make restitution or reconcile with their victims.
She noted that the effective operation of the Multi-Door Courthouse would accelerate dispute resolution, decongest conventional courts and help reduce the population of correctional centres by facilitating the timely settlement of qualifying cases.
Obianyo expressed optimism that sustained government support and collaboration with relevant stakeholders would further strengthen the institution, expand access to justice and contribute to reducing the backlog of cases within Anambra State’s justice system.
