A High Court in Anambra State has sentenced controversial spiritual leader and self-acclaimed prophet, Onyebuchi Okocha, popularly known as Onye Eze Jesus, to six years imprisonment and imposed a ₦20 million fine after convicting him under the Anambra Homeland Security Law.
The conviction is part of the Anambra State Government’s ongoing efforts to combat alleged ritual practices, fraudulent spiritual activities, and the preparation of charms believed to facilitate criminal offences, including kidnapping and internet fraud.
Onye Eze Jesus was among several prominent native doctors arrested during the state’s security crackdown launched in February 2025 as part of a broader campaign to strengthen public safety and curb criminal activities.
In the judgment, the court held that individuals who falsely claim to possess supernatural powers capable of making people wealthy through unlawful means, or who prepare charms prohibited under the Anambra Homeland Security Law, are liable to both imprisonment and substantial financial penalties.
The ruling reinforces the state government’s resolve to enforce the provisions of the Homeland Security Law and discourage practices considered detrimental to public safety and security.
