FCCPC Seals Three Milk Production Factories in Anambra Over Alleged Safety Violations

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed three milk production factories in Awada, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, over alleged violations of food safety and production standards.
The enforcement operation, carried out on July 14 with the support of security operatives, resulted in the destruction of freshly produced milk found in containers awaiting packaging.
Speaking during the exercise, the FCCPC South-East Zonal Coordinator, Mrs. Ndidiamaka Obialor, alleged that the affected factories were producing dairy products under unhygienic conditions that failed to meet acceptable safety standards, thereby posing potential health risks to consumers.
According to Obialor, preliminary investigations revealed that workers handled the products without the required personal protective equipment, while the production processes allegedly fell short of established food safety regulations.
She further alleged that the factories neither used properly treated water nor conducted quality analysis on finished products before releasing them into the market.
Obialor reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to protecting consumers from unsafe products and ensuring strict compliance with food production and safety regulations.
“The FCCPC will not tolerate practices that endanger the health and safety of consumers. We will continue to enforce standards and ensure that manufacturers comply with regulatory requirements,” she said.
During the operation, security operatives arrested one of the factory owners, while production equipment and other materials were confiscated as part of the ongoing investigation.
The FCCPC assured the public that it would sustain enforcement activities aimed at protecting consumer rights and preventing substandard products from reaching the market.
