Police Arrest Suspected Armed Robber in Anambra, Recover Gun, 50 Cartridges

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old man identified as Chima Ogumba over suspected armed robbery activities and recovered a pump-action gun along with 50 live cartridges from him.
The suspect was arrested on the morning of August 17, 2026, by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, during an operation along Nkpor Road in Idemili North Local Government Area.
According to the police, the firearm and ammunition were recovered during a search. Authorities said the suspect could not provide a satisfactory explanation for being in possession of the weapons.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnanna Oji Ama, has ordered a thorough investigation to determine the suspect’s possible connection to armed robbery and other criminal activities.
Police said the investigation will also establish the source and intended use of the recovered firearm and ammunition.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-led operations, proactive policing and sustained efforts to disrupt criminal activities across Anambra State.
