Soludo Calls for Stronger State Partnerships to Boost Investment and Job Creation

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, has urged Nigerian states to deepen collaboration in order to attract more investment, drive economic growth and create sustainable jobs for citizens.
Speaking at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit in Asaba, Soludo said recent economic reforms have improved Nigeria's macroeconomic outlook, making the country a more stable and attractive destination for both local and international investors.
The governor, who attended the summit in support of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, described the event as a valuable platform for promoting economic partnerships and unlocking new opportunities across the country.
According to Soludo, Nigeria is entering a period of greater economic stability, with improvements in foreign exchange management and investor confidence creating a stronger foundation for long-term development.
Reflecting on his administration's early financial decisions, he explained that Anambra withdrew from a foreign-denominated World Bank loan due to concerns over exchange-rate volatility. He noted that borrowing in foreign currency can become significantly more expensive when the naira depreciates, increasing the repayment burden on governments.
However, Soludo observed that the country's improved foreign exchange reserves and a more stable exchange-rate environment have created fresh opportunities for investment and economic expansion.
Despite the positive outlook, the governor stressed that no state can achieve lasting prosperity on its own. He called for closer cooperation between the Federal Government, state governments and local councils to ensure that economic reforms translate into real benefits for ordinary Nigerians.
Soludo also highlighted the strategic importance of the Second Niger Bridge, describing it as a game-changing infrastructure project that has strengthened the economic relationship between Anambra and Delta states. He encouraged both states to work together in areas such as trade, industrialisation, infrastructure development and investment promotion.
He revealed that Anambra is developing a modern commercial and industrial hub anchored by an aerotropolis, expressing confidence that states can accelerate development by sharing ideas and learning from one another's successes.
The governor praised the organisers of the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit for focusing on practical results rather than speeches alone. He said the true measure of success would be the investment deals, business partnerships and projects that emerge after the event.
Soludo further urged governments to make investment promotion an ongoing commitment instead of limiting efforts to occasional summits.
Turning to local industry, the governor advocated stronger support for Made-in-Nigeria products, arguing that increased patronage of locally manufactured goods would stimulate production, create employment and strengthen the national economy.
Using his own wardrobe as an example, Soludo said he now wears locally produced fabrics, noting that his decision has helped increase demand for indigenous textile producers. He encouraged Nigerians to embrace locally made clothing and suggested that future investment summits feature Made-in-Nigeria outfits to showcase the country's creativity and manufacturing potential.
He concluded by congratulating the Delta State Government for hosting the summit and expressed optimism that the discussions would lead to meaningful investments, stronger regional partnerships and sustained economic growth across Nigeria.
