The Anambra State Police Command has appealed to members of the public to assist in locating the parents or guardians of a 10-year-old boy who was found wandering around Okpoko in Ogbaru Local Government Area.

The child, identified as Chinecherem Onuwasoanya, was reportedly rescued by police officers attached to the Okpoko Police Division on Sunday, November 1, 2026, after a concerned resident discovered him roaming without knowing his way home.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, preliminary interaction with the boy revealed that he had left home to play but later became lost and could not find his way back to his family.

The police further disclosed that the child identified Ebenebe, Anambra State, as his hometown.

Following the incident, the command said it had begun efforts to establish contact with his family to ensure his safe return.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Ama, praised the resident who brought the child to the police station, describing the action as a commendable demonstration of concern for the safety and welfare of children.

The police commissioner also called on residents to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies in protecting children and other vulnerable members of society.

Parents and guardians were advised to pay closer attention to their children's movements and ensure they have sufficient identification details that could help reunite them with their families if they become separated.

The police have urged anyone who recognises the boy or has information that could help locate his parents or guardians to contact the Okpoko Police Division or the Anambra State Police Command.

The rescued children were subsequently taken into police custody for debriefing, while efforts were initiated to identify and apprehend those allegedly responsible for the operation.
