Three Children Die, One Critical After Discovery at Anambra Woman's Home
A tragic incident has shaken Ideani Community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State after three children were found dead inside the residence of a woman known locally as a native doctor.
A fourth child, who was discovered unconscious alongside the others, was rescued and taken to a hospital, where doctors are battling to save the victim's life.
The children, believed to be between six and 15 years old, were reportedly found within the compound on Wednesday morning. Residents alerted security agencies after the disturbing discovery.
The identities of the victims and the circumstances that led to their presence at the property have not yet been established.
The woman, popularly referred to as "Ezenwanyi" by locals, was taken into custody by police as investigators began examining the scene. Community leaders and local security personnel also visited the residence during the initial investigation.
The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying officers from the Ogidi Division responded promptly after receiving a distress report and rushed the victims to a medical facility. Doctors later confirmed three of the children had died, while the surviving child remains in critical condition.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the State Criminal Investigation Department has taken over the case and is conducting a detailed investigation to determine what happened.
Authorities said the suspect remains in custody, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy.
Police have appealed to residents to remain calm, avoid spreading rumours or unverified information, and allow investigators to complete their work. They added that more details will be released as the investigation progresses.
