US honours Nigerian physician Dr Ikenna Okezie for transforming kidney care
The United States has recognised Nigerian-American physician and entrepreneur Dr Ikenna Okezie for his outstanding contributions to transforming kidney care and expanding access to quality healthcare.
The US Mission in Nigeria praised Okezie, the CEO and co-founder of Somatus, for leading innovative efforts to improve the lives of people living with chronic kidney disease through in-home dialysis support and patient-centred care.
In a statement, the mission said Okezie's leadership and commitment to healthcare innovation are helping reshape kidney care delivery across the United States by making quality treatment more accessible beyond traditional hospital settings.
Through Somatus, Okezie has championed new models of care that enable patients to receive comprehensive kidney care from the comfort of their homes while improving health outcomes.
The US Mission also highlighted Okezie's achievements as an example of the growing impact of Nigerian-Americans in innovation, entrepreneurship and the healthcare sector, commending his role in advancing patient care and transforming the future of kidney treatment.
