Ancelotti urges Brazil to use World Cup heartbreak as motivation
Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has urged his players to use their disappointing FIFA World Cup exit as motivation, insisting the team's campaign marks the beginning of a new era rather than the end of one.
Brazil's hopes of winning a sixth World Cup title ended with a 2-1 defeat to Norway in the round of 16 after Erling Haaland scored twice late in the game. An early penalty miss proved costly for Brazil, while Neymar's stoppage-time penalty was not enough to prevent elimination.
Despite the result, Ancelotti expressed confidence in the team's future, saying the squad had shown enough quality to compete with the world's best.
The Italian manager, who took charge of Brazil just over a year ago and remains under contract until the 2030 World Cup, dismissed any suggestion that he could step down after the defeat.
He said the team must learn from the setback, continue improving, and build on the progress made during the tournament.
Brazil's wait for another World Cup title now extends beyond two decades, with their last triumph coming in 2002. The defeat also marked the nation's earliest exit from the competition since 1990.
Ancelotti said the disappointment would serve as motivation as Brazil begins preparations for the next chapter.
Forward Vinicius Junior described the elimination as heartbreaking, admitting it was difficult to process. He acknowledged the expectations of Brazilian supporters but stressed that the team must move forward and continue working towards future success.
