England Held by Ghana in Goalless World Cup Stalemate
England national football team were frustrated by Ghana national football team in a 0-0 draw on Tuesday, missing the chance to take full control of Group L at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
After an impressive 4-2 victory over Croatia in their opening match, England dominated possession and created numerous opportunities but failed to find a way past Ghana goalkeeper Benjamin Asare at Gillette Stadium near Boston.
The closest England came to scoring was a late header from Nico O'Reilly that struck the crossbar. Despite registering 19 shots compared to Ghana’s two, manager Thomas Tuchel was left disappointed by his side’s lack of cutting edge.
The result leaves both teams on four points with one group match remaining. England face Panama on Saturday, while Ghana take on Croatia, with qualification for the knockout stage appearing highly likely for both sides.
Ghana produced a disciplined defensive display under coach Carlos Queiroz. Midfielder Thomas Partey returned to the starting lineup after missing the opening game, helping the Black Stars secure another valuable result following their 1-0 win over Panama.
England captain Harry Kane was kept quiet throughout the contest and remains tied with Gary Lineker on 10 World Cup goals.
Late chances fell to Bukayo Saka, whose effort was saved by Asare, while Kane fired over the bar in the closing stages as England were forced to settle for a point.
The draw extends England’s unbeaten record against African opposition at the World Cup and keeps them on course for a place in the last 32.
