According to the school's management, the affected structure is a privately owned lodge located in Amaokpala, a neighboring community, and was occupied by both students and non-students. The incident happened after the second-semester examinations, when many students had already left campus for the academic break.
The Polytechnic's management stated that, as of the latest update, no student fatalities have been recorded. The Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, alongside members of the institution's management, visited the scene to assess the situation and check on any students who may have been affected.
State officials also inspected the site as rescue efforts continued. Authorities said several occupants were rescued and taken to hospital for treatment, while search teams continued looking for two people believed to be trapped beneath the rubble. The institution maintained that those still unaccounted for are not students of Oko Polytechnic.
